Cannabis Network Plans to Rally Against Rescheduling Policy

Thailand’s Cannabis Future Network announced a stoner protest is planned in front of parliament against new cannabis policies that aims to tackle recreational use and ban household cultivation.

Thailand’s Cannabis Future Network will send a petition letter asking the government to listen to opinions from all sides instead of medical doctors and anti-cannabis campaigning on this 12th October. Then the government have 15 days for decision before the movement set on protest in front of parliament.

Prasitchai Nunual, the network leader, warned the cannabis policy under the new minister will limit the capacity of local medical practitioners and patients to develop the traditional Thai medicine industry. We will fight to end struggle for local knowledge and avoid modern medicine from pushing out other medicine that people should have access to. Furthermore citizens fundamental right to use herbal medicine for self-treatment at the household level.

“Cannabis has enjoyed economic growth and has been used in the lucrative wellness and pharmaceutical industries. Instead of treating this useful plant as a threat to society, the government should try to find a win-win solution”

Meanwhile Thailand cannabis association published a statement against government policy that aims to end recreational use stated that delisting cannabis back on drug list would affect multi-billion businesses, which over 10,000 sales licenses were registered across the country as well as the human right to consume cannabis for self-reliance as traditional remedy. Thailand also missed opportunities from tourism sector as the first country in Asia that legalized cannabis.
