Thailand Aims to Keep Cannabis Out of Drug List
1 min readDr. Cholnan Srikaew, Public Health Minister revealed the progress of the new cannabis bill stating that the cannabis flower will not be delisted as a drug but the government would put stricter control as well as more restrictions toward the upcoming cannabis laws, The new draft included 70 sections. Especially in terms of control measures such as approvals, sales licenses, and new permission requirements for any dispensaries.
Dr. Cholnan added that currently cannabis stores that got a license would continue their business, but in the near future, any commercial activities must be approved by the government in a strictly regulated way because the plant contains THC compound in every part including flowers, leaves, and roots.
Dr. Chonnan also stated in an interview with the media that the new cannabis bill will shut the legal loopholes along with prohibiting recreational use, insisting that cannabis must only be used for medical and health purposes. While smoking should be forbidden in general, So the following regulations will be implemented to tackle these issues. However ministry of public health will host a public hearing session for all relevant stakeholders to provide feedback before submitting the final draft to the house of representatives
