British Airports Seized Cannabis Smuggled from Thailand Over 846 Pounds in One Month
2 min readBirmingham Airport suspected drugs smugglers were caught with 573 pounds of cannabis. In just two weeks, National Crime Agency (NCA) officers made a series of cannabis seizures from passengers flying into the airport from Thailand.
The latest case was arrested 9 people who smuggled cannabis into Britain in total 573 pounds worth 33 million THB, Five of the passengers had flown in on routes from Thailand, while four had started their journeys in the United States
“In some of these cases passenger journeys have started in locations where cannabis may be legal, but that won’t make a difference when you arrive in the UK. Organised criminal gangs rely on couriers to bring illicit substances into the UK, their business models rely on it. Consequently those playing such a role face stiff jail sentences. It simply isn’t worth the risk.” said Mick Pope, NCA branch commander
However during December British airport seized cannabis from Thailand over 846 pounds worth 155 million THB including :
December 4 – 40kg cannabis seized from suitcases of male UK national residing in Thailand, arriving from Bangkok via Paris.
December 5 – 24kg cannabis in suitcase of male UK national from Birmingham, arriving from Bangkok via Paris.
December 6 – 30kg cannabis in two suitcases of male UK national residing in Thailand, arriving from Bangkok via Paris.
December 7 – 30kg cannabis in suitcase of male UK national residing in Thailand, arriving from Bangkok via Paris.
December 13 – 260 kg cannabis in suitcase of male UK national residing in Thailand, arriving from Bangkok
