Thailand Aims to Ban Recreational Cannabis with 100,000 THB Punishment

When asked about smoking marijuana in private households for health purposes. Dr. Chonnan said that household recreational cannabis cannot be used by individual opinion, It must be a medical opinion and must be considered based on facts, procedures, and medical principles
“The new law will clearly stipulate that cannabis must be used for medical purposes only. It will also encourage the use of cannabis for a range of health benefits,” Dr Cholnan said on Saturday after signing the bill.
“Regarding the use of cannabis for recreational purposes, there will be a clear measure to control and prevent this. The measure may come in the form of a ministerial regulation passed by the cabinet, or from a panel, Whether the buying of cannabis will require a medical certificate or not has not been included in the bill just yet. This may have to depend on the enforcement of organic laws ” he said.
Asked about the impact on cannabis stores, Dr Cholnan said there have been no such laws set to revoke licenses for running legally-registered stores. But once the law is put in place, cannabis stores must sell only the parts of the cannabis plant that are deemed legal in Thailand.
According to news reports, Section 27 of the aforementioned Cannabis Act forbids marijuana retailers from offering products for recreational use. by smoking or consuming it. Offenders will face a maximum sentence of one year in jail. or a fine (up to 100,000 THB. Additionally, there is a daily punishment of up to 50,000 baht for the duration of the infraction or until proper compliance is attained.
