Government Banning Cannabis From Digital Money Handout

Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister announced that Friday the 10,000 baht digital wallet handouts cannot be used for cannabis, cannabis products, kratom and kratom products which is mean heart-broken for stoners across Thailand

“I want to make it clear that the 10,000 digital money handout scheme will not be able to buy alcohol, tobacco products, kratom and marijuana related products” said Prime Minister

However the digital wallet scheme will be launched next May, under which every Thai citizen who is 16 or older, who has a monthly income not exceeding 70,000 baht or has no more than 500,000 baht in bank accounts, will be eligible for the one-time 10,000 baht cash benefit, to be spent within six months.

The 10,000 baht will be distributed through the “pao tang” application, which will be updated and backed up by a blockchain platform to ensure transparency. Furthermore the money will be in the form of baht currency which can only be used to buy necessities, excluding liquor, tobacco in any form and cannabis, and cannot be used to make online purchases as well as service purchase, gold & gems, debt payments; water, electricity & phone bills, petrol & cannot be exchanged to cash.
