Amazing Thailand! Thai government has approved the third phase of the digital wallet programme for buying negative products list including cannabis, which will distribute 10,000 baht to 2.7 million people aged 16 to 20 as part of its economic stimulus package

Mr. Phao Bhum Rojanasakul, Deputy Minister of Finance stated that the government has approve digital wallet cash handout to buy cannabis and related negative list products for the first time, including lottery, top-up cards, game top-up cards, mobile phones, gold, gems, liquor, oil and cannabis. This measure will help people spend more easily, which is a good method to stimulate the economy, making it more convenient to spend, and citizen will be able to know which stores can buy things and which cannot

“The government’s goal for the digital wallet programme is a short-term stimulus to build confidence in the economy, benefiting both producers and consumers” said Deputy Minister of Finance

However the program will allow eligible Thais to receive one-time handouts of 10,000 baht ($277) and the payments can be spent at any shop that enrolls in the program as recipients must spend the money within the registered district by the QR Code technology to pay for goods via electronic payment, This initiative has restricted online trade or through middlemen and support only on-site trading.

Furthermore only tax-registered merchants (value-added tax, corporate income tax or personal income tax under Section 40 of the Revenue Code) can cash out, unless the merchant is exempt from tax according to the Revenue Code following 1. Income tax returns must be filed in 2022 and 2023 for two years in a row. 2. Merchandise that have been operating for less than two years are required to be the ones who have consistently filed income tax returns from the start of their enterprise to the present.
