Marijuana March for Freedom

2 min read

Cannabis activist networks gathered at Burnett Park in Fort Worth calling for recreational cannabis and lowering penalties for possession. The festivities include music, speakers, vendors, food, flow performers, and a march for freedom which is free to attend, family friendly and open to the public.

“The Texas cannabis community is not only alive, but it’s thriving The biggest thank you to every single soul that showed up and exercised their 1st Amendment right to peacefully protest their government’s outdated laws on cannabis. This was one of the best marches of my life. The push to legalize marijuana across Texas and nationally” said the attendee.

There’re also many performances in the event such as music performances, marijuana workshop, marijuana speeches, giveaway activity and collect people’s signature for pushing recreational cannabis regulations, This event is considered the largest demonstration of the power of the stoner network in the Texas

“We are extremely proud of all of the volunteers on our team, and everyone else who is helping us collect signatures,” Adam Hernandez, communications chair for Lubbock Compact, said in a press release

However advocates must submit 3,651 valid signatures from local voters by October 17th in order to place their initiated measure before politicians. Advocates say they have collected 8,800 signatures and that they plan to turn in some 10,000 signatures by the mid-October deadline.

Furthermore Texas might be struggle for recreational cannabis legalization although weed won in ballot box, but the state seems to be holding its ground as a stronghold for conservative values and the state’s political leaders have shown resistance in the past. While cultural resistance have less receptive to marijuana benefit which can influence legislative decisions and public opinion, Finally legal process is difficult as the process to change drug laws is more cumbersome. Any change would require a constitutional amendment, which needs a two-thirds majority in both the state House and Senate, followed by a majority vote from the public.
